On Tuesday, June 18, the Stamford Police Department Major Crimes Unit concluded its investigation into New Haven County resident Tyssan Woods of Waterbury for his involvement in three carjackings that occurred during the early mornings of Tuesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 28, in Stamford.
According to Capt. Tom Scanlon of the Stamford Police, investigators gathered digital and forensic evidence at the scenes, linking Woods to these crimes.
Two warrants were issued for Woods, charging him with:
- Robbery
- Conspiracy to commit robbery
- Reckless endangerment
- Conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment
- Criminal mischief
- Conspiracy to commit criminal mischief
- Threatening
- Conspiracy to commit threatening
- Burglary
- Conspiracy to commit burglary
- Criminal attempt at larceny
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm
- Robbery involving an occupied vehicle
- Conspiracy to commit robbery involving an occupied vehicle.
The combined bond for these charges is set at $750,000. The warrants were served at the Stamford Superior Court, and Woods remains in custody with the Connecticut State Correction Department.
The March 26 carjacking took place around 5 a.m. at Hospital Plaza in Stamford, where a Lexus was stolen at gunpoint.
Two days later, around 5:30 a.m., on March 28, a man driving a blue Audi to a gym was followed by another car with a group of men and was stopped at gunpoint, and his car was stolen, police said at the time.
The third incident took place about 10 minutes later at the Gulf gas station on East Main Street in Stamford when a group of men in a blue Audi stole a man's Maserati at gunpoint, police said.
All of the vehicles were found in Waterbury by police.
"The Stamford Police Department extends its gratitude to the Connecticut State Police, the Waterbury Police Department, and the Stamford State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this case," Scanlon said.
